Tension erupted in Thane’s Hajuri locality, Wagle Estate, Maharashtra, after the severed head of an animal, believed to be a buffalo, was found in a dustbin on Sunday night. Locals spotted the head and raised an alarm, quickly gathering a crowd demanding immediate police action. Senior Inspector Shivaji Gaware of Wagle Estate police said public unrest grew as people demanded the registration of a criminal case and the identification of those responsible.

The situation escalated when activists from Hindu organizations joined the protest, intensifying demands for an investigation. Police acted promptly to calm tensions and control the crowd. The carcass was seized by authorities, and samples were sent for laboratory examination. A veterinary doctor was also called to the scene for a preliminary assessment.

We suspect the carcass to be that of a buffalo, Inspector Gaware stated, noting that the police are awaiting laboratory results. An FIR has been registered against unknown persons under sections 299, 302, and 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976. These charges cover acts intended to outrage religious feelings and animal cruelty. No arrests have been made yet, and the investigation remains ongoing as police work to uncover the facts behind the incident.
