Union Home Minister Amit Shah has hailed the neutralisation of 27 maoists in Chhattisgarh as a major achievement in India’s fight against Naxalism. Sharing the news on social media, Shah said the security forces conducted a successful operation in Narayanpur, where they killed 27 maoists, including Nambala Keshav Rao, also known as Basava Raju. Basava Raju was the general secretary of the CPI-Maoist and a key leader of the naxal movement. This is the first time in 30 years that a top maoist leader of such rank has been killed by Indian forces.

Shah praised the bravery of the security personnel and shared that after Operation Black Forest, 54 Maoists have been arrested and 84 others have surrendered across Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Maharashtra. He reaffirmed the government’s goal to eliminate naxalism by March 31, 2026.

According to Prabhat Kumar, Superintendent of Narayanpur, the encounter began early Tuesday morning in the Abujhmad forest. Basava Raju, who had a bounty of Rs 1.5 crore, was among those killed. One District Reserve Guard soldier was martyred during the clash. The operation took place at the border of Dantewada, Narayanpur, and Bijapur districts after police received intelligence about Basava Raju’s location.

State Home Minister Vijay Sharma called the operation a significant success. Last month, Shah urged Maoists in Bastar to give up violence and join development efforts, warning that the forces would not retreat or negotiate conditions.
