Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India’s strong retaliatory action against terrorism, citing Operation Sindoor as the latest example of a firm stance. Speaking at a public event in Lucknow, Shah said Modi had sent a clear message to the world: “India’s blood is not meant to be shed.”

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people, most of them tourists. The operation reportedly neutralised over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. Shah likened the operation to earlier strikes in Uri and Pulwama, underscoring the Modi government’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism.

Shah was in the city to attend a recruitment event where more than 60,000 new police constables received appointment letters. He praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for modernising the state police and said that although police reforms began under Modi nationally in 2014, they became visible in UP only after 2017.

He further stated that India is on track to become a global leader by 2047, with Uttar Pradesh playing a pivotal role.

On the issue of Naxalism, Shah declared that left-wing extremism would be eradicated by March 31, 2026. He noted a significant drop in violence—53% fewer incidents between 2014 and 2024 compared to the previous decade. Major operations in Chhattisgarh have already led to the elimination of several top Naxal leaders.
