Akash Anand reinstated as BSP national coordinator
NEW DELHI
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has appointed Akash Anand, nephew of party supremo Mayawati, as its chief national coordinator, just over a month after his return to the party. Anand was expelled in March due to allegations of being influenced by his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth. However, after publicly apologising and pledging full dedication to the BSP’s mission, Mayawati reinstated him in April, emphasszing her continued leadership and denying any plans for succession.
Following an all-India meeting of party leaders in Delhi, the BSP officially announced Anand’s new role, expressing confidence in his ability to contribute towards strengthening the party. Mayawati urged the party cadre to support Anand in his efforts and reiterated her commitment to leading the BSP with dedication, comparing her resolve to that of founder Kanshi Ram.
Anand’s reinstatement comes amid internal efforts to unify the party and enhance its political impact ahead of upcoming elections. The move reflects Mayawati’s strategy to consolidate leadership within her family while maintaining control over the party’s direction. Anand has also been actively reaching out to party workers and supporters to rebuild trust after his previous expulsion. Mayawati’s message stressed that she remains in good health and will continue to serve the BSP without naming any successor, reinforcing her central role in the party’s future plans. The BSP leadership hopes Anand’s renewed involvement will energise the party’s base and improve its organisational strength nationwide.
