Air India reroutes flights, urges status check
New Delhi
Air India announced that several international flights were diverted or returned to their origin due to the closure of Iranian airspace following rising tensions in the region. In a social media post, the airline listed affected flights, including those between London, New York, Chicago, Toronto, and Indian cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Some flights were redirected to cities like Vienna, Sharjah, Jeddah, and Frankfurt.
The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience and assured passengers that necessary support was being provided, including hotel accommodation, refunds, and free rescheduling. Air India also advised travelers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
This disruption follows Israel’s confirmed preemptive strike on Iran, which led to a nationwide emergency declaration by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz. The Israeli Air Force launched Operation Nation of Lions, targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites. The IDF warned of a possible Iranian missile or drone retaliation, calling the situation an imminent threat.
