Adityanath criticizes Mamata for calling Waqf rioters peacemakers
Lucknow
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of allowing rioters to operate freely in her state, while the violence continued unabated. Speaking at a public meeting in Hardoi, around 125 kilometers from Lucknow, Adityanath stated that Bengal was burning, but Mamata remained silent and even called the rioters shanti-doot (peacemakers).
He criticized the Bengal government for giving rioters the freedom to wreak havoc, pointing out that the situation in Murshidabad had been volatile for over a week. Such lawlessness must be stopped, he said, emphasizing that rioters could only be dealt with using force, not talks.
Adityanath also made controversial remarks, suggesting that people who preferred Bangladesh should move there rather than becoming a burden to India.
The Chief Minister recently spoke about the plight of Hindus in Bengal and Bangladesh, labeling them as dalits and marginalized individuals who would benefit from the amended Waqf Act. Hindus were dragged from their homes in Murshidabad and killed. These victims are dalits and deprived Hindus who stand to gain the most from this law, he said.
Adityanath further explained that the Waqf Act would prevent illegal land acquisitions and free up large tracts of land in the state. The state government plans to use these lands to build hospitals, he added, emphasizing the law’s potential benefits.
