In a heated response, Aditya Thackeray, a Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA, has strongly condemned Karnataka Congress MLA Lakshman Savadi for his statement advocating that Mumbai should be made a Union Territory. Thackeray emphasized, "We will not tolerate any attempts to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra."

He further remarked that any demand to turn Mumbai into a Union Territory is unacceptable. Whether it’s the Congress or the BJP, the Shiv Sena (UBT) will not allow any initiatives aimed at detaching Mumbai from Maharashtra. "Mumbai is our birthplace. The Marathas have built it with their blood. No one has given us Mumbai," he asserted.

Thackeray also insisted that the Congress leadership should rein in its legislators concerning such provocative statements.

Lakshman Savadi had previously stated that if leaders from Maharashtra are advocating for Belagavi to be declared a Union Territory, then it would also be appropriate to consider Mumbai as a Union Territory. His comments have drawn sharp criticism from several political figures in Maharashtra, including Thackeray.
