14 Maoists surrender to police in Telangana
Hyderabad
On Thursday, fourteen members of the banned CPI (Maoists) group surrendered to Telangana police, including two Area Committee Members (ACMs). They handed themselves over to Inspector General of Police (IGP) S Chandrashekhar Reddy at the Warangal Police Commissionerate. This is part of ongoing efforts to encourage Maoists to abandon violence, with 250 individuals, including a state committee member, surrendering this year alone. Additionally, twelve Maoists have been arrested since January 2025. The IGP noted that the welfare programs for former rebels and tribal communities, under the police’s 'Operation Cheyutha,' played a significant role in encouraging these surrenders. Many of the surrendered Maoists are from Chhattisgarh, which borders Telangana. Regarding joint operations in the Karregutta hillocks, the IGP clarified that while Chhattisgarh's police and the CRPF participated, Telangana forces were not involved in these operations.
