10 Indians honored among 100+ Everest climbers

Ten Indian climbers were among over 100 mountaineers honored in Nepal on Tuesday to celebrate the first successful climb of Mount Everest by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. The event was held ahead of International Everest Day on May 29, organized by Everest Alliance Nepal.
Badri Pandey, Nepal’s Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Civil Aviation, praised the climbers and emphasized the importance of protecting the Himalayas for future generations. He said, We must care for and preserve the mountains to keep them safe and beautiful for years to come.
Climbers from various countries, including Nepal, India, China, Australia, Bangladesh, Singapore, the Philippines, Palestine, and the United Kingdom, received certificates of appreciation. The ten Indian climbers honored were Ashish Singh, Nisha Kumari, Anuja Vaidya, Baljit Kaur, Suvidha Kadlag, Surya Prakash, Shaik Himansha, Satyarup Siddhanta, Jyoti Ratre, and Aditi.
Among others recognized were Nepal’s Mingma Sherpa, the first South Asian to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, and Xu Zhu Oyun, the youngest Chinese climber to reach Everest’s summit.
International Everest Day, celebrated every May 29, honors the historic 1953 ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa of Nepal, marking a milestone in mountaineering history.
