In a surprising and historic crossover between cinema and sport, Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay was honoured during the Wimbledon 2025 finals. This marks the first time the prestigious tennis tournament has paid tribute to Indian cinema.

During the thrilling final match where Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz, Wimbledon’s official social media handle shared a special post that caught fans' attention. The image showed Sinner striking a victorious selfie pose with his trophy, resembling Vijay’s pose from the teaser poster of Jana Nayagan. The post was captioned The First Roar, referencing the film’s title and Anirudh Ravichander’s powerful background score.

This gesture makes Jana Nayagan the first Indian film to receive such recognition from Wimbledon. The movie, produced by Venkat K. Narayana under KVN Productions, is set for a global release on January 9, 2026, aligning with the Pongal festival.

Jana Nayagan is also special as it marks Thalapathy Vijay’s final film before his anticipated political debut. The film features a star-studded cast including Pooja Hegde, Shruti Haasan, Bobby Deol, Revathi, Prakash Raj, and Priyamani.

Filming began on October 5, 2024, at Prasad Studios, Chennai, starting with a vibrant song sequence featuring Vijay and Pooja Hegde alongside 500 background dancers. Initially announced as Thalapathy 69, the title Jana Nayagan was officially revealed in January 2025.
