Vijay Deverakonda criticizes Hollywood’s pay disparity with Brad Pitt
Vijay Deverakonda is currently filming his upcoming Telugu movie Kingdom, and his physical transformation for the role has caught the attention of fans online. Recently, during a conversation at the Waves Summit 2025, the actor shared his thoughts on the global reach of films, taking a dig at Hollywood's widespread success due to its language advantage while regional films often struggle for global visibility.
During the summit, Vijay joined Karan Johar and Kareena Kapoor Khan for a discussion on cinema and its cultural impact. When asked about his international fanbase, Vijay revealed that he rarely meets international admirers due to his reserved nature. He also shared that he often keeps his head down to avoid attracting attention in public.
Vijay expressed his optimism about the growth of Indian cinema but also highlighted the challenges posed by language barriers and the lack of global exposure. He pointed out that English, as a dominant global language, gives Western cinema a significant advantage, not just in visibility but also in pay. Brad Pitt will get paid 100 times more than me, just because more people watch films in his language, he said, critiquing the dominance of English-language films.
On the work front, Vijay’s recent film The Family Star underperformed at the box office, but he made a cameo in the hit film Kalki 2898 AD. He will next star in Kingdom, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri.
