Vairamuthu upset over lyrics used as titles
Veteran Tamil poet and lyricist Vairamuthu has voiced his unhappiness over filmmakers using his song lyrics as movie titles without his permission. In a recent post on social media, he shared his disappointment, stating that directors and producers have taken his lyrical lines without credit or even informing him.
Vairamuthu mentioned that this has happened many times and not just once or twice. He shared a list of well-known film titles such as Ponmaalai Pozhudhu, Ilaya Nila, Mouna Raagam, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, Neethane En Pon Vasantham, and Kan Sivanthaal Mann Sivakkum. All these names, he claimed, were inspired by his work.
Despite his sadness, Vairamuthu said he has never raised objections. He chose not to confront anyone, even though he noticed the titles being used in public places. His response was calm and dignified.
In his post, he explained that while material wealth is not shared in society, knowledge and creativity often become public property. He added, “In a society where wealth is not public property, at least knowledge becomes common.”
His statement has sparked discussions in the Tamil film industry about giving proper credit to original creators. Many fans and followers praised Vairamuthu for his graceful reaction and continued humility, despite the lack of recognition.
The incident highlights a growing concern about intellectual respect and artistic credit within the film world, especially when the words involved have touched so many lives.
