Warner Bros. is bringing back the iconic 1992 film The Bodyguard with a fresh remake. Sam Wrench, known for directing Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film, will helm the new version. This remake has been in development for years.

While the cast has not yet been announced, the studio has confirmed that Jonathan Abrams, who wrote Clint Eastwood’s Juror 2, will be handling the screenplay. This marks the latest effort to revive the beloved classic after previous drafts, including one by Matthew Lopez, didn’t move forward since development began in 2011.

The original The Bodyguard starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. It told the story of a former Secret Service agent who is hired to protect a famous singer from a stalker. The film was a major box office hit in 1992 and became one of the year’s top-grossing films.

Whitney Houston’s rendition of I Will Always Love You became a global anthem, and the film earned two Academy Award nominations. Directed by Mick Jackson, the original was based on a script by Lawrence Kasdan and later inspired a successful stage adaptation, which premiered in London’s West End in 2012.

Now, with a new director and script, Warner Bros. is set to reintroduce The Bodyguard to a new generation of viewers.
