Apple TV+ has released the teaser trailer for Chief of War, a historical drama starring Jason Momoa. More than just the lead actor, Momoa is also the co-creator, writer, executive producer, and director of the season finale.

The nine-episode series is based on true events and follows Ka'iana, a Native Hawaiian warrior played by Momoa, who attempts to unify the islands before Western colonization in the late 18th century. The series aims to bring this powerful story to life through a predominantly Polynesian cast.

Joining Momoa are actors Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Cliff Curtis, Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, and others. The show is produced by Fifth Season and Chernin Entertainment for Apple TV+.

Doug Jung serves as the showrunner and executive producer alongside Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, and Brian Mendoza. The first two episodes were directed by Justin Chon, who also executive produces. Additional episodes are directed by Anders Engstrom, Jim Rowe, Molly Allen, Francis Lawrence, and Tim Van Patten.

The music score is composed by Hans Zimmer, co-produced with James Everingham for all nine episodes.

Chief of War premieres on Apple TV+ with its first two episodes on August 1, followed by weekly releases every Friday through September 19. The show promises an epic retelling of a lesser-known chapter of history with cultural depth and cinematic storytelling.
