Celebrated filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, known for thrillers like Andhadhun and Johnny Gaddaar, is set to explore a new genre with his upcoming war film Ikkis. Marking a tonal shift in his filmmaking journey, Raghavan’s latest project revisits the 1971 Battle of Basantar and the valor of Indian war hero Arun Khetarpal.

The film stars Agastya Nanda in the lead role, alongside veteran actor Dharmendra and Jaideep Ahlawat. It is scheduled to hit theatres on October 2, 2025. The coming-of-age drama follows Khetarpal, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra at age 21. However, contrary to popular belief, the youngest recipient of the honour remains Yogendra Singh Yadav, who received it at 19 during the 1999 Kargil War.

Set during India’s fierce tank battle in Shakargarh, the film highlights how Khetarpal heroically destroyed ten Pakistani tanks before being martyred. Despite being outnumbered, Indian forces, with aerial support from the IAF, outmaneuvered the Pakistani Army, leading to a decisive victory and the eventual creation of Bangladesh.

Produced by Maddock Films, Ikkis explores themes of bravery, sacrifice, and patriotism, while offering a glimpse into the crucial moments that shaped India’s military history. It is poised to become a landmark cinematic tribute to a national hero.

The film also draws parallels between the 1971 Battle of Basantar and present-day Operation Sindoor, highlighting the strategic importance of river-based warfare. This symbolic connection adds depth to the narrative, linking past heroism to contemporary military operations.
