Scarlett says Malta sun made filming brutal
Scarlett Johansson has opened up about the tough conditions while filming Jurassic World Rebirth in Malta. The Hollywood star said the heat made the shoot extremely difficult. “There was no escape from the sun,” she told Empire magazine. “It was baking every day. We were 30 feet in the air on a moving rig, soaked with water cannons. It was brutal—and it lasted for weeks.”
Director Gareth Edwards shared that he tried to comfort the cast daily, but each day turned out tougher. “They stopped believing me,” he said.
The film, due in theaters in July, will be darker than earlier entries. Edwards described it as a “horror film” that’s thrilling like a fairground ride. “It’s full-on darkness,” he noted.
Scarlett plays Zora Bennett, and the movie introduces new characters, including roles played by Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey. Screenwriter David Koepp said restarting the franchise with a new cast was an easy choice.
Edwards also recalled the pressure of having Jurassic Park creator Steven Spielberg visit the set. “It’s like showing George Lucas around a Star Wars set,” he said.
Jurassic World Rebirth marks a bold, chilling return to the dinosaur saga.
