Sam Mendes to bring Beatles' story to theaters with four biopics

Acclaimed filmmaker Sam Mendes is set to bring the legendary Beatles to the big screen in a unique way—through four individual movies focusing on each band member. These films will hit theaters in April 2028.

Mendes, known for Skyfall, Spectre, and 1917, announced the project at CinemaCon, confirming the much-anticipated cast. Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) will play Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn (Gladiator II) will portray George Harrison, Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin) will take on Ringo Starr’s role, and Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) will bring John Lennon to life.

The Beatles, famous for hits like Hey Jude, Let It Be, and Here Comes the Sun, dominated the music scene from 1960 to 1970, creating a cultural phenomenon known as 'Beatlemania'.

Titled The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, Mendes described the project as "the first binge-able theatrical experience." It remains unclear if the films will release together or in close succession.

Mendes explained that the story was too vast for a single movie, so he opted to explore the band's journey from each member’s perspective. This biopic series is also the first to secure rights to the Beatles’ iconic songs, including Strawberry Fields and Yellow Submarine.

Filming for all four movies is expected to take a year, making this an ambitious tribute to one of the greatest bands in history.
