‘Sachien’ makers drop new trailer before re-release

To celebrate Tamil New Year and mark 20 years since its original release, the makers of the Tamil hit film Sachein have unveiled a new trailer. Starring Vijay and Genelia D’Souza in lead roles, the romantic comedy will be re-released in theatres on April 18.

Producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu, who first brought Sachein to audiences in 2005, shared the updated trailer on X, writing, Sachein trailer out now! Grand theatrical release on April 18th. Fans warmly welcomed the announcement, expressing excitement for the re-release.

Actress Genelia D’Souza, who played Shalini in the film, also shared her happiness. Quoting Thanu’s post, she wrote, Sachein — has my heart always. Thanu replied with a heartfelt Thank you!

Directed by John Mahendran, Sachein featured Vijay in the title role, alongside Genelia and Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu, who made her Tamil debut with this film. The story revolves around a college romance and was a massive success at the box office, earning four times its production cost.

The film also starred veterans like Raghuvaran, Vadivelu, and Santhanam. Its striking visuals were captured by cinematographer Jeeva, and V T Vijayan handled the editing. The music, composed by Devi Sri Prasad, featured six songs, five of which became hits. Notably, Vijay sang the energetic number Vaadi Vaadi, which was filmed with Vadivelu and became a fan favorite.
