Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro attended the New York premiere of Tanvi The Great, directed by Anupam Kher, at the New York Indian Film Festival. De Niro was accompanied by his longtime partner, Tiffany Chen.

Anupam Kher shared pictures and videos from the event on Instagram, expressing his excitement and gratitude. What more can an actor or director ask for? Having the world’s best actor at my film’s premiere is the highlight of my career, Kher wrote.

The two last worked together in Silver Linings Playbook (2012). Before the New York screening, Tanvi The Great premiered at Cannes 2025, where Kher and De Niro reconnected after many years. Kher also introduced debut actress Shubhangi Dutt to De Niro, who warmly wished her success.

Speaking about the Cannes premiere, Kher said he was moved by the audience’s emotional response—clapping, laughing, and crying during the film.

Tanvi The Great tells the story of Tanvi Raina, a 21-year-old woman with autism, who sets out to fulfil her late father’s dream of saluting the Indian flag at Siachen. The film features Shubhangi Dutt in her debut role, alongside Karan Tacker, Boman Irani, and Kher himself. The film is set for theatrical release on July 18, 2025.
