Veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam recently hinted at the possibility of reuniting with superstar Rajinikanth after the release of his new film, Thug Life. Known for their memorable collaboration in the 1991 classic Thalapathi, fans have long hoped for another project from this iconic duo. Mani Ratnam said the decision depends on Rajinikanth’s interest and shared that he has several scripts in mind but nothing finalized yet. You never know, he smiled, keeping fans eager but realistic.

Thalapathi is remembered as a powerful retelling of the Karna-Duryodhana friendship from the Mahabharata, with Rajinikanth playing Surya, a kind-hearted orphan raised in the slums, whose life becomes intertwined with a gangster and a principled district collector. The film’s success was boosted by Ilaiyaraaja’s memorable music and strong performances.

Currently, Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, follows the story of an aging don who plans to pass on his legacy but faces betrayal. The film has already generated excitement for its intense drama and star cast.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is busy preparing for Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, set to release on August 14, 2025. With both legends active in their craft, fans remain hopeful that a new Rajinikanth-Mani Ratnam collaboration could happen soon, bringing back the magic of their past work.
