Late Kannada superstar Puneeth Rajkumar’s debut film Appu is set to return to theaters on March 14, 2025, ahead of what would have been his 50th birthday. His wife, Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, announced the re-release on social media, inviting fans to relive the film’s magic.

Directed by Puri Jagannadh, Appu was a major hit upon its release in 2002, marking Puneeth’s transition into a leading role in the film industry. The movie ran for over 200 days in theaters and earned Puneeth the beloved nickname Appu among his fans. Starring Puneeth and Rakshita in lead roles, the film follows the story of a carefree young man who fights against all odds to win his love, the daughter of a strict police commissioner.

The re-release is part of an ongoing tribute to Puneeth’s legacy, following the successful re-release of his film Jackie. His fans can now look forward to an annual screening of his films on his birthday, ensuring his work continues to inspire audiences.

Fondly remembered as the Power Star, Puneeth Rajkumar was a cherished figure in the Kannada film industry. His untimely passing in 2021 due to a heart attack left a lasting void, but his films and legacy continue to shine.
