Premgi Amaren answers if Ilaiyaraaja's songs ensured 'Good Bad Ugly's success
Adhik Ravichandran's Good Bad Ugly, starring Ajith Kumar, has sparked controversy following Ilaiyaraaja’s claim that the filmmakers used his songs without permission. Ilaiyaraaja has demanded ₹5 crore in compensation, causing a stir in the film industry. The movie, which released on April 10, features three well-known songs by Ilaiyaraaja. While the film is performing decently at the box office, the issue of using these iconic tracks without proper authorization has led to legal action.
Gangai Amaran, Ilaiyaraaja’s brother, has come forward to defend the composer. He expressed his displeasure, suggesting that if the filmmakers had approached Ilaiyaraaja for permission, it would have been granted. Gangai Amaran argued that the film’s success is partly due to the music, and it’s only fair that they receive compensation for it.
Meanwhile, Premgi Amaren, actor and musician, and the brother of filmmaker Venkat Prabhu, shared his thoughts at a press event. He acknowledged the support for his family but downplayed the controversy, calling it an internal matter. He dismissed claims that the film's success was primarily due to Ilaiyaraaja's songs, emphasizing that it’s Ajith Kumar’s star power that draws the audience. Ajith's presence is what makes the film appeal to fans, he said, stressing that the actor's popularity was the true driving force behind the film's box office performance.
