Nushrratt faces backlash over shoelace incident
Actress Nushrratt Bharuccha faced criticism online after a video from the 11th International Day of Yoga event in Mumbai went viral. In the clip, she appears to ask an event volunteer to untie her shoelaces — a gesture that sparked widespread backlash from netizens, especially considering the event’s focus on self-awareness, discipline, and physical engagement.
Dressed in a pink top, cream shrug, and matching pants, Nushrratt was seen interacting with volunteers before the yoga session began. The video shows her gesturing to a woman to help remove her shoes. As one shoe is being untied, she adjusts her posture and points to the other foot, seemingly asking for help again.
The footage quickly drew criticism on social media platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter). One user commented, “Unbelievable, doesn’t she have hands?” while another added, “Why does she need two people to remove her shoes… and she’s going to do yoga?” Some users accused the actress of being entitled, with comments suggesting fame had gone to her head.
Despite the controversy, Nushrratt completed the session and later shared her views with ANI, saying, “Yoga is very energising. If it becomes part of your daily routine, it will be perfect for your mind, body, and soul.”
On the work front, Nushrratt was last seen in Chhorii 2, a psychological horror thriller directed by Vishal Furia. The film, which premiered globally on April 11, featured a strong ensemble cast and was produced by T-Series and Abundantia Entertainment, among others.
