Nitesh Tiwari Brings Ramayana to Screen Today
Director Nitesh Tiwari, known for Dangal and Chhichhore, shared why he chose to retell the epic Ramayana at a teaser launch event in Mumbai. Tiwari said that every generation grew up with its own version of Ramayana, but today’s generation lacks that connection. He felt it was time to fill that gap.
It’s about time we share our rich culture with the world, he said, adding that Ramayana is more than mythology—it carries deep moral and spiritual meaning with global relevance.
Tiwari credited producer Namit Malhotra for making this ambitious dream possible. With someone like Namit saying, ‘Dream big, I’ll support you,’ I knew this was the right moment, he said. Even the teaser, Tiwari explained, took immense effort—hinting at the scale of the full film.
Set in a divine age ruled by Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, the film follows Ravana’s rise and Lord Rama’s journey to restore balance. The cast includes Ranbir Kapoor (Ram), Yash (Ravana), Sai Pallavi (Sita), Sunny Deol (Hanuman), and Ravie Dubey (Lakshman).
Backed by Prime Focus Studios, DNEG, and Monster Mind Creations, and featuring music by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, Ramayana will release in two parts—Diwali 2026 and 2027.
