Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming Brazilian mini-series Rivers of Fate, a tense and emotional thriller based on Edyr Augusto’s novel. Set in the heart of the Amazon, the show explores survival, trauma, and human strength against a backdrop of natural beauty and danger. Directed by Quico Meirelles and Fernando Meirelles, the series will premiere on August 20, 2025. In Brazil, it was originally titled Pssica.

The story follows Janalice, played by Domithila Cattete, a teenage girl kidnapped by a brutal river gang in Pará, Brazil. Forced into an international sex trafficking network, her fight for survival connects her to others battling their own inner and outer struggles. The trailer reveals a world filled with stunning landscapes, hidden violence, and a haunting atmosphere shaped by the Amazon’s myths and realities.

The series features a strong ensemble cast, including Marleyda Soto, Lucas Galvino, Ademara, Bruno Goya, and others. With creators Stephanie Degreas, Fernando Garrido, and Bráulio Mantovani, Rivers of Fate blends social drama with psychological tension. The story also weaves in local legends, such as the mysterious pssica curse that shadows Janalice’s path.

With gripping visuals and a powerful message, Rivers of Fate offers more than just suspense—it shines a light on the dark issues of exploitation while celebrating the resilience of those who fight back. Backed by the visual style of the Meirelles brothers, known for City of God, this series is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most talked-about international dramas of the year.
