L2: Empuraan OTT release details: When and where to watch
Mohanlal's much-anticipated film L2: Empuraan, the sequel to the 2019 hit Lucifer, is set for its OTT debut on JioHotstar on April 24th, following a successful theatrical release. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film continues the gripping story of Khureshi-Ab’raam, played by Mohanlal, and introduces a significantly expanded role for Prithviraj as Zayed Masood.
The movie has already achieved remarkable success, grossing over Rs 265.5 crore worldwide. Released on March 27, 2025, it quickly became one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films, earning Rs 105 crore in India within just three weeks. The film was shot across multiple international locations, including the UK and the US, and released in five languages to cater to a broad audience.
The plot picks up five years after the events of Lucifer, with Kerala’s political landscape in turmoil. As spies and power brokers wreak havoc, old secrets resurface, and the Devil returns to confront the storm. The story continues to explore political intrigue, power struggles, and personal vendettas, building on the intense narrative of the original.
However, the film faced controversy over certain scenes reportedly referencing the Gujarat riots. In response, the filmmakers voluntarily removed 17 scenes. The star-studded cast also includes Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, and Saikumar, among others.
