Kusha Kapila’s new film breaks typecasting barrier
Actress and digital star Kusha Kapila has taken a big step in her career by becoming a co-producer of her new short film, Vyarth. The poster of the film was revealed recently. Kusha says Vyarth reflects the real fight actors face when they are stuck in similar roles again and again.
In this film, Kusha plays two roles — one in front of the camera and one behind it. She acts in the film and also helps make it as a co-producer. She believes this is her way of growing in the film world and telling important stories.
Kusha shared that the film’s story follows Bhumi, an underrated actress who feels stuck playing the same kind of roles. Things change when she’s offered another mother’s role. But a twist comes when her young flatmate Meenakshi asks for help with the same audition.
“Producing makes you look at everything, not just your lines,” Kusha said. “From funny videos online to co-producing films — it feels like the right next step.”
The film is written by Fahim Irshad. Romil Modi, known for Laapataa Ladies and All We Imagine as Light, did the casting. It is directed and co-produced by Pankaj Dayani, who earlier worked on Newton with Rajkummar Rao.
