Kunal Kapoor open to Vikram Patel sequel exploration

Kunal Kapoor returns with a powerful role in the action-thriller Jewel Thief, now streaming on Netflix. Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, the film features Kapoor as Vikram Patel, a determined officer chasing the elusive Rehan Roy, played by Saif Ali Khan.

Kapoor shared his excitement about being part of a heist film, calling it a dream project. I’ve always wanted to be in a heist film. This genre is my favourite, he said.

Kapoor prepared for the role physically, carrying over muscle gained from another project, Vishwambhara. I gained about 6-7 kilos of muscle. The role didn’t need special training but staying fit for the action scenes was key, he explained.

One of the most challenging parts, he recalled, was an intense night-time fight sequence. There’s a lot of running. I joked that Tom Cruise might have competition here, he laughed.

Kapoor is open to continuing the story in a sequel or prequel. There’s more to Vikram and Rehan’s past. Exploring that could be very exciting, he said.

Though he had limited screen time with Saif and Jaideep Ahlawat, he praised both actors. Saif is smart and generous, and Jaideep brings a calm, authentic energy, he shared.

Reflecting on his journey, Kapoor added, I’ve learned to stress less and enjoy the process more. For him, Jewel Thief marks another step forward in both craft and growth.
