‘Kaanta Laga’ star Shefali Jariwala dies at 42
Actress and dancer Shefali Jariwala, best known for her iconic role in the 2002 music video Kaanta Laga, has passed away at the age of 42. She was reportedly rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Mumbai late Friday night but was declared dead on arrival. While the official cause is yet to be confirmed, sources suggest a possible cardiac arrest.
Mumbai Police stated that her body was found at her Andheri residence around 1 a.m. and was later taken to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem examination. An official family statement is still awaited.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association also confirmed her death and expressed deep sorrow on social media, calling her passing “too soon.”
Shefali rose to instant fame in the early 2000s with Kaanta Laga, a music video that became a major pop culture moment in India. She went on to act in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and appeared in TV shows like Bigg Boss 13 and Nach Baliye (Seasons 5 and 7), where she featured alongside her husband, actor Parag Tyagi.
Beyond her screen presence, Shefali was a vocal supporter of mental health awareness and women’s rights. She also spoke openly about living with epilepsy, inspiring many.
She is survived by her husband, Parag Tyagi. Her sudden death has left the entertainment world in shock and her fans grieving.
