Ilaiyaraaja sues Ajith’s team, demands ₹5 crore compensation

Renowned music composer Ilaiyaraaja has filed a legal notice against the makers of Ajith Kumar’s recent hit Good Bad Ugly, claiming they used his classic songs without permission. He has demanded ₹5 crore in compensation and asked for an official apology from the production team.

The film, directed by Adhik Ravichandran and released on April 10, features music by G.V. Prakash Kumar. However, several popular tracks originally composed by Ilaiyaraaja—such as Otha Roobaiyum Thaarein from Nattupura Paattu, En Jodi Manjal Kurivi from Vikram, and Ilamai Idho Idho from Sakala Kala Vallavan—were reportedly reused without his consent.

While the film has earned over ₹150 crore globally, drawing attention for Ajith’s new look and action-packed sequences, Ilaiyaraaja’s copyright claim has cast a shadow over its success. According to News18, his legal team has not only asked for monetary compensation but also insisted that the songs be removed from the film. He has also objected to any remixes or changes that alter his original compositions.

This isn't the first time Ilaiyaraaja has taken such action—he previously issued a similar notice to the Manjummel Boys team. He now awaits a written apology within seven days from the Good Bad Ugly makers.
