Boman Irani, known for his stellar acting career, is now making his directorial debut with The Mehta Boys. The film explores the complex relationship between a father and son forced to spend 48 hours together.

In an interview, Irani shared that The Mehta Boys stemmed from an idea presented by Sujoy Ghosh. Sujoy came to me with a few ideas, and one stood out— a father and son navigating their differences in a confined time frame. I immediately knew I wanted to direct it, he recalled.

Irani, who took eight years to refine the script, emphasized the importance of crafting meaningful scenes. Every line has a purpose. You can’t rush a story like this, he explained. The 3 Idiots actor also reflected on his steady career growth, saying, I became an actor at 44, a writer at 55, and now a director at 65. I take my time with everything.

The film, starring Avinash Tiwary, Shreya Chaudhry, and Puja Sarup, premiered at the 15th Chicago South Asian Film Festival, winning Best Feature Film. It later screened at IFFI Goa and the Indian Film Festival Berlin. The Mehta Boys will release on Prime Video on February 7, 2025, in multiple languages. Produced by Irani Movietone and Chalkboard Entertainment, the film marks a new creative milestone in Irani’s journey.
