Filmmakers and actors Payal Kapadia, Jeo Baby, Kani Kusruti, Richa Chadha, and Ali Fazal are teaming up to co-produce Guptam (The Last of Them Plagues), a new Malayalam film written and directed by Kunjila Mascilamani. Known for her work on Asanghadithar in the anthology Freedom Fight, Kunjila’s latest project explores themes of social stigma, motherhood, and survival.

The film follows a single mother who moves to a conservative town in Kerala after her younger daughter vanishes in a graveyard. As disasters strike the region, the townspeople blame her, believing she has brought divine punishment. Struggling with grief, she must fight to clear her name and protect her surviving child.

Guptam has already gained industry recognition, being selected for the NFDC Co-Production Market, Kerala Film Market, and Bangalore Literature Festival. It will also be presented at the CineV Film Markets in Chandigarh from March 20-23, connecting filmmakers with investors.

Kapadia praised Kunjila’s storytelling, saying she was moved by Asanghadithar and wanted to support her vision. Chadha called the script a powerful commentary on systemic violence against women, while Jeo Baby described it as a gripping story of resilience. Kusruti emphasized its impact on portraying women’s struggles. With a strong production team, Guptam aims to bring this compelling narrative to a global audience.
