Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu team up in Maareesan, a heartwarming road trip film set to release in theatres on Friday, July 25. Directed by Sudheesh Shankar, the story follows two very different individuals whose journey from Nagercoil to Tiruvannamalai and then to Coimbatore changes their lives forever.

Fahadh plays a thief who plans to steal money from Vadivelu, who is traveling with a bag full of cash. However, things take an unexpected turn when Fahadh is forced to travel with him. Vadivelu’s memory lapses and unpredictable behavior complicate the journey, turning what seemed like a simple theft into a life-changing experience for both men.

Fahadh fondly recalled skipping college to watch his first Tamil film in theatres—Rajinikanth’s Baasha. He said, I remember the scene where Rajini sir says, ‘I told the truth’—it felt like he was talking directly to the audience. That moment really stayed with me.

Fahadh also talked about learning Tamil through friends from Coimbatore and how Tamil cinema has always been close to his heart.

On his role in Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Vettaiyan, Fahadh revealed that he was initially offered a different role by director TJ Gnanavel but chose to play ‘Patrick’ instead. I connected with the character more deeply, even though it was a last-minute change. I prefer choosing roles after personally hearing the story, he said.

Maareesan blends comedy, emotion, and transformation, promising a touching tale of unexpected friendship and self-discovery.
