Ektaa Kapoor slams Kashyap's saas-bahu comment

TV producer Ektaa Kapoor has strongly responded to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s recent comments about Indian “saas-bahu” dramas. She accused him of being “classist” and called his remarks “dumb” in a sharp Instagram post.

This exchange began after Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos appeared on a podcast, saying that launching Netflix India with the gritty crime show Sacred Games might not have been the best idea. He suggested something more “popular” could have worked better.

Kashyap, who directed Sacred Games, reacted by mocking Sarandos and wrote, “He should have started with Saas Bahu.” He added that tech executives don’t understand storytelling and even called Sarandos “the definition of dumb.”

In reply, Ektaa Kapoor, who is known for producing several hit daily soaps, fired back on Instagram. She wrote that Anurag was trying to sound “cool and smart,” but was actually being unkind and unaware. “How about being gracious and self-aware?” she questioned.

Ektaa added that saas-bahu dramas have had a big impact on Indian audiences, especially women in small towns. She cited a study from a Chicago-based institute that supports this claim. She also said that people who talk about being inclusive often end up sounding elitist.

Without directly naming Anurag, Ektaa wrote that this “we are better” attitude goes against the spirit of democracy and fairness. She ended her post by wishing “love and light to all.” The heated exchange has sparked fresh discussions about elitism in the entertainment world.
