'Dune 3' filming starts this summer
Director Denis Villeneuve plans to begin filming the third Dune movie this summer. The team is in pre-production, preparing for a mid-year start, depending on talent availability and other key factors, according to Deadline.
Villeneuve will complete his trilogy by adapting Dune Messiah, Frank Herbert’s sequel novel, which concludes Paul Atreides' story. In the book, Paul Muad’Dib Atreides has ruled as Emperor for 12 years, but his reign has sparked a violent religious jihad he can no longer control. The title of the third film has yet to be confirmed.
The first two Dune films, starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, were both Oscar-nominated for Best Picture. Dune: Part Two grossed over $700 million worldwide. Villeneuve previously stated that the second film exceeded his expectations, saying, This film is much better than Part One. There’s something more alive in it. I aimed for a deeper intensity and emotion, and I feel I achieved it.
The second film featured Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Javier Bardem. Villeneuve’s long-held dream of turning Dune into a trilogy is now close to reality, with fans eagerly awaiting the final chapter.
