Dhanush, Pooja Hegde team up for period drama

Actor Dhanush is set to star in director Vignesh Raja’s upcoming film, with actress Pooja Hegde likely to play the female lead. Though an official confirmation is still awaited, reports suggest the project will go on floors later this month and may be officially announced on Dhanush’s birthday, July 28.

This marks the first on-screen pairing of Dhanush and Pooja Hegde, generating buzz among fans. The film is said to be a period drama and will be produced by Vels Film International, which had earlier listed Vignesh Raja in its upcoming director lineup.

Vignesh Raja made his debut with the critically acclaimed thriller Por Thozhil. His second film aims to explore a completely different genre, showcasing his range as a filmmaker.

Dhanush, fresh off the release of Kuberaa, has a packed slate including Tere Ishq Mein in Hindi, a biopic on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, and a project with Mari Selvaraj. Kuberaa, directed by Sekhar Kammula and also starring Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna, is currently running in theatres, with streaming rights acquired by Prime Video.

Pooja Hegde, last seen in Retro with Suriya, will also appear in Jana Nayagan, expected to be Vijay’s farewell film. She’s also set to feature in a special dance number in Rajinikanth’s Coolie, releasing on August 14.
