Ayurveda docu-film set for June 11 release

A new documentary exploring the traditional Indian medical system of Ayurveda is set to premiere in New Delhi on June 11. Titled Ayurveda – The Double Helix of Life, the 90-minute English docu-film is directed by national award-winning filmmaker Vinod Mankara and produced by Dr A V Anoop under A V A Productions, with support from the Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturers Organisation of India (AMMOI).

The film aims to present Ayurveda as a scientifically valid and evolving system of medicine, rather than just an ancient tradition. According to Mankara, it focuses on how Ayurveda is integrated into modern healthcare and addresses widespread misinformation about it.

Starting with the basics of Ayurvedic drug manufacturing, the film explores the transformation from traditional herbal formulations to modern, user-friendly dosage forms. It also highlights clinical innovations in treating conditions like infertility, kidney stones, and diabetic neuropathy.

One segment discusses how Parkinson’s disease is being treated in Germany through integrated Ayurvedic practices. The documentary also covers advancements like the development of Rejuran (a skin rejuvenation therapy) and sustained-release dressing pads.

Featuring insights from 52 experts including doctors, researchers, and scientists from India and abroad — including contributions from the World Health Organisation — the film presents Ayurveda as a relevant part of global healthcare.

The premiere will be held at the Film Division Theatre and launched by Union Minister of State for Ayush and Health Prataprao Jadhav, with Secretary Rajesh Kotecha and other dignitaries expected to attend.
