Vatal Nagaraj breaks clay pots in protest against Greater Bengaluru Project
In a bold display of dissent, Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj has spearheaded a unique protest against the Greater Bengaluru project in Ramnagara.
The demonstration took place at Aijuru Circle, where Nagaraj and his supporters engaged in a symbolic act of breaking 101 clay pots to express their anger against the state government's plans. They demanded an immediate withdrawal of the Greater Bengaluru project, asserting that the division of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is unjust. They fear that if Bengaluru is divided, the legacy of the city, established by Kempegowda, will slip away from the hands of the Kannada people.
Nagaraj and the protesting crowd vehemently expressed their stance that they do not want the Greater Bengaluru project, stating, "The division of Bengaluru is not acceptable under any circumstances."
The protest also highlighted ongoing issues related to various projects such as the Mahadayi, Kalasa-Banduri, and Mekedatu schemes, as well as allegations of oppression against Kannadigas. The protestors have already called for a Karnataka Bandh to further their demands.
Nagaraj announced that another significant protest will take place on April 26 to reinforce their calls for all Kannada demands to be met, encouraging supporters to continue the struggle for their rights and representation.
This protest reflects the growing tensions surrounding regional identity and governance in Karnataka, with local leaders and citizens advocating for the interests of Kannada speakers and the preservation of the state's cultural heritage.
