Two new namma metro lines to be operational in Bengaluru by 2026
Namma Metro is expanding rapidly in Bengaluru, with two new metro lines set to open in the next year. The city’s metro network is gaining popularity, with more people relying on it for daily commuting.
The BMRCL (Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited) is working on the “Pink Line” and “Blue Line” (in two phases), both expected to offer enhanced connectivity. The Pink Line, which involves tunnel boring, is 96% complete, while the construction of the Blue Line, stretching from Central Silk Board to KR Puram, is progressing rapidly.
The Blue Line is expected to open by June 2026. The line will connect key IT hubs, providing convenient transport for thousands of commuters. The first phase of the Blue Line, connecting Central Silk Board to KR Puram, is targeted for completion by mid-2026, with some minor delays expected.
The second phase, connecting KR Puram to Devanahalli Airport, is also underway. The Yellow Line, connecting Electronic City to Bommasandra, is anticipated to open by June 2025.
The delay in its opening has been caused by supply issues with metro trains, with the first set of driverless trains expected to arrive by the end of April. BMRCL aims to begin operations of the Blue Line by June or September next year. This line will be crucial for connecting the southern and eastern parts of the city, significantly improving access to various key areas.
