Totapuri mango row: Karnataka urges Andhra to lift ban
Chikkaballapur/Kolar
The Karnataka government has officially appealed to the Andhra Pradesh government to lift the ban on the sale of Totapuri mangoes originating from Karnataka. Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh has written a formal letter to her Andhra Pradesh counterpart, urging the revocation of the ban imposed by Chittoor district authorities.
The Chittoor administration had recently prohibited the sale of Totapuri mangoes from Karnataka, citing that the influx of fruit from outside was affecting local farmers. The ban came into effect from June 7, dealing a severe blow to mango growers, especially from the border districts of Kolar and Chikkaballapur, where Totapuri is cultivated extensively.
