Special focus is being given to the enforcement of the ban on electronic cigarettes and vaping devices, which are part of electronic nicotine delivery systems. Inspections are being carried out at malls, coffee shops, and stores through unannounced visits. Raising awareness about the mandatory licensing for tobacco vendors is a priority, said Bangalore Police Commissioner B. Dayananda.

From 2024 to April 2025, a total of 57,130 cases have been registered under COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act) in Bangalore city, with a fine collection of Rs. 80.8 lakh, he stated.

Speaking about World No Tobacco Day, he said that from May 27 to June 2, police personnel, BBMP marshals, and NGOs will jointly undertake special operations to increase awareness about the regulation of tobacco products and compliance with legal provisions.

He assured that the city is committed to a healthier future. Strict measures against illegal tobacco consumption, vaping, and hookah use, along with awareness campaigns about licensing for vendors, will help create a tobacco-free environment. The police commissioner appealed to all citizens and traders to cooperate by working with law enforcement authorities to ensure compliance with the law.
