Bengaluru: Chamarajapet police have arrested a woman accused of stealing over ₹1 crore worth of cash and jewelry from a house where she worked. The stolen items included ₹67 lakh in cash and gold ornaments.

The arrested accused is Uma (43), a resident of Iliyas Nagar in Chamarajanagar district. Police stated that the arrest was made following an investigation based on a complaint filed by Radha, an entrepreneur residing on 3rd Main Road, Chamarajapet.

Radha, who owns a security agency in Nagarthapete, had hired Uma three months ago to care for her ailing sister, Sujatha, agreeing to pay Uma ₹23,000 per month. Two months ago, Radha sold a plot near Electronic City and kept the proceeds in her home safe.

On June 9, as Radha was planning to purchase a flat and went to retrieve the money from the safe, she discovered that both the cash and gold jewelry were missing. A review of CCTV footage revealed that on June 4 morning, the domestic worker was seen leaving the house with a bag. However, when questioned, Uma claimed she knew nothing about the theft. Radha immediately filed a complaint at the Chamarajapet police station, expressing her suspicion of Uma.

Following the registration of the case, Chamarajapet police took Uma into custody for questioning, during which she confessed to committing the crime. Police reported that they have recovered ₹50.57 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth ₹12.66 lakh, which Uma had kept at her daughter's house. The interrogation of the arrested individual is ongoing.
