State Government to host Kaveri Aarti at Sankey tank in city
Sankey Tank, one of Bengaluru’s most popular lakes, is set to host a unique Kaveri Aarti ceremony. The Karnataka government has planned this event to honor the Kaveri River, the city’s primary water source. The event, scheduled for March 21, marks the first time an Aarti ceremony will be held at a lake in Bengaluru. Inspired by the famous Ganga Aarti in Varanasi, the state government has decided to bring priests from Uttar Pradesh to perform the rituals. Sankey Tank was chosen for this event as it is considered the origin of the Vrishabhavathi River, a tributary of the Kaveri. While some historians believe the river originates at Basavanagudi’s Nandi Temple, others claim it begins at Sankey Tank. Adding to the spiritual atmosphere, the event will feature a laser light show, live orchestra, and religious processions. A special puja will be conducted, followed by the distribution of holy water from the Bhagamandala Triveni Sangama, where the Kaveri, Kannika, and Sujyothi rivers merge. Thousands of devotees, along with officials from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), are expected to attend. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar are also likely to participate in the ceremony. The Karnataka government had previously organized a Kumbh Mela at T. Narasipura’s Triveni Sangama, which attracted large crowds. The upcoming Kaveri Aarti at Sankey Tank aims to replicate this grandeur, offering Bengalureans a sacred and cultural experience.
