Silent Sunil photo used in Rs 63 lakh extortion case; two arrested by CCB
In a bizarre case of extortion, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested two individuals who allegedly used a photo with notorious rowdy-sheeter “Silent” Sunil to intimidate and extort lakhs of rupees from a city resident. The incident has raised alarm about the misuse of rowdy-sheeters’ images for criminal intimidation.
The accused reportedly showed a photograph of themselves with Silent Sunil to threaten Ravi, a resident of Lakkasandra, who had borrowed Rs 13 lakh from one of the accused, identified as Deepak. According to police sources, Ravi had entered into an agreement to repay either the original sum or Rs 26 lakh within a month. However, when he failed to meet the deadline, the accused allegedly used the photograph to create fear and pressure him into paying Rs 63 lakh as interest—more than double the agreed amount.
The police believe that the photograph with the infamous rowdy was used deliberately to create an illusion of criminal backing. This case has shed light on a worrying trend where extortionists exploit their association—real or staged—with known criminals to threaten vulnerable individuals. Authorities have now warned rowdy-sheeters to be cautious while posing for photos, as such images are increasingly being misused for extortion and fraud. Investigations are ongoing to uncover if others have fallen victim to similar tactics.
