RSS is cancer, BJP’s support fake: Priyank Kharge
Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has continued his sharp criticism of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), calling it a cancer and claiming the BJP’s loyalty to the group is only surface-level. His remarks followed his earlier statement that Congress would ban RSS if it comes to power at the Centre.
Kharge, who is also the son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, said that defending the RSS is essential for BJP leaders as their political survival depends on it. However, he added that their loyalty is not genuine, pointing out that no BJP leader sends their children to RSS shakhas. If Modi starts a campaign like 'Selfie with Shakha', the truth will come out, he said.
Kharge further alleged that the RSS has not contributed meaningfully to India’s progress over the past century. He questioned the organisation’s role in the freedom movement, social reform, and nation-building efforts, and challenged the RSS to name 10 contributions it has made in 100 years.
He also reminded BJP leaders that the Constitution is supreme, saying, Even if one is not afraid of mobs, one must respect the Constitution.
Kharge accused the RSS of staying away during the Salt Satyagraha, the Quit India Movement, and the country’s wars, while opposing the national flag and the Constitution.
In response, BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra dismissed Kharge’s comments as immature, stating that Congress’s dislike for the RSS will not impact the organisation, which has faced opposition since Nehru’s era and still continues to grow.
