Emphasizing the transformative role of research and innovation, Karnataka Governor Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot called upon the youth to become drivers of sustainable development at the 5th Annual Convocation of Bangalore North University, held in Kolar on Friday. “Research is the backbone of innovation. It is through research that we can develop new processes, products, and designs to solve emerging global challenges,” the Governor said in his keynote address. He stressed the critical need to build expertise in modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science within India’s higher education institutions.
The Governor highlighted India’s growing startup landscape, noting that the nation has now surpassed one lakh startups, making it the third-largest startup hub in the world. “Bengaluru, as a technological powerhouse, is a symbol of this progress, and its youth must lead in innovation and social entrepreneurship,” he remarked. Shri Gehlot also underlined the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility. He urged students to contribute towards building a Green, Clean, and Strong India by aligning every technical, commercial, and social decision with sustainable practices.
Referencing the National Education Policy 2020, he praised its efforts to revive India’s ancient wisdom from the Vedas, Ayurveda, and Yoga, and called upon students to present this heritage to the world in a modern context. Honorary degrees were awarded to Shri Radhakrishna, Dr. H.S. Shetty, and Shri Pichali Srinivas for their contributions to education, literature, health, and social work. Minister M.C. Sudhakar, Chief Guest Dr. Vude P. Krishna, and Vice Chancellor Prof. Niranjan were also present.
