RCB, KSCA staff arrested in stampede case
The Cubbon Park police have intensified their investigation into the recent stampede incident by arresting key individuals linked to the event’s mismanagement. Among those taken into custody is Nikhil, a marketing executive associated with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In addition, three members from DNA Networks, the firm managing the event — Sumath, Sunil Mathew, and Karthik — have also been arrested for their alleged negligence.
Authorities have now turned their attention to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). While Secretary Shankar and Treasurer Jayaram have reportedly evaded arrest, two Group D employees of KSCA, Ramaraj and another Karthik, have been detained. These employees are currently being questioned by the Cubbon Park police regarding their involvement or knowledge of the lapses that led to the tragic incident.
The incident has sparked widespread public and political debate, especially regarding the detainment of lower-level employees while senior KSCA officials remain at large. Critics argue that holding junior staff accountable while the main office-bearers go unpunished raises serious questions about fairness and the direction of the investigation.
Police sources indicate that further arrests are likely as the probe deepens. The authorities are under pressure to ensure that responsibility is fixed not just on operational staff but also on those who authorized and oversaw the event at the highest level. Investigations are ongoing, and the public continues to demand justice for the victims of the chaos that unfolded during the event.
