A woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy on the platform of Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT), Bengaluru, with the quick and compassionate intervention of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and fellow passengers, turning an ordinary day into an inspiring act of service. The incident occurred on July 30 when the woman, who was waiting to board a train, went into sudden labor. With no time to reach a hospital, RPF constable Amrutha promptly stepped in, assisting with the delivery on the platform itself. Female station staff and several passengers provided vital support during the delivery.
Following the birth, the mother and newborn were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital. Officials later confirmed that both are in stable condition and doing well. The South Western Railway, RPF India, and the Divisional Railway Manager (Bengaluru Division) praised the timely and humane response, sharing details on their official social media handles.
Social media users lauded the bravery and presence of mind shown by Constable Amrutha, calling her a real-life hero. The post garnered widespread appreciation, highlighting the dedication of railway personnel in times of crisis. In a related incident on the same day, a 28-year-old woman from Assam delivered a baby girl aboard the SMVT Bengaluru–New Tinsukia Superfast Express while the train was stationed at Jolarpet. These back-to-back deliveries underscore the importance of well-trained railway personnel in handling unexpected emergencies with courage and care.
