Pink Line Metro testing begins successfully
The Namma Metro Pink Line project has taken a major step forward with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) initiating third rail testing on the elevated stretch between Jayadeva and Tavarekere metro stations. This crucial stage of electrification marks the start of a series of mandatory safety and performance trials before the corridor can be commissioned for public use.
The Pink Line forms part of the Kalena Agrahara–Nagawara corridor, and the third rail—responsible for supplying power to the metro trains—must undergo rigorous evaluation as part of standard safety protocols before further systems, such as signalling and train operations, are tested.
BMRCL officials confirmed that the current testing is restricted to the elevated section and will gradually extend to other parts of the line. Once operational, the Pink Line is expected to significantly improve connectivity in South and North Bengaluru, reducing travel time for daily commuters and easing congestion on major roads. The project, which has seen delays due to technical and logistical challenges, is now entering its final stages with hopes of being ready for partial commissioning in the coming months.
Experts believe the successful implementation of third rail testing is a positive sign that the infrastructure is nearing readiness. The BMRCL has assured the public that all safety standards will be strictly followed before launching operations. With progress steadily advancing, the Pink Line is poised to become a vital addition to Bengaluru’s expanding metro network, offering more efficient and reliable urban transportation.
