New Bengaluru Police chief promises efficient, accountable policing
Seemanth Kumar Singh, appointed as Bengaluru’s 36th Police Commissioner, has assured police personnel of full administrative support as long as they perform their duties responsibly. Taking charge after the suspension of former Commissioner B. Dayananda, Singh began his tenure by conducting thorough inspections overnight.
Addressing the media, Singh emphasized that the police force had been actively working even before his appointment and assured that strict legal action is underway against those responsible for the recent tragic stampede near Vidhana Soudha and Chinnaswamy Stadium, which resulted in 11 deaths.
He expressed confidence in the police department’s longstanding organized structure and urged officers to maintain a people-friendly approach while carrying out their responsibilities. Singh assured that those following proper protocols would be shielded from administrative troubles.
His appointment follows intense public scrutiny and government action, including the suspension of five senior officials, to address shortcomings exposed by the incident during IPL 2025 celebrations. Singh’s leadership is expected to restore public trust and strengthen law enforcement in the city.
By focusing on accountability and effective policing, Commissioner Singh aims to navigate the department through this challenging phase while reinforcing safety and discipline across Bengaluru. Commissioner Singh has also called for enhanced training and improved crowd management strategies to prevent future incidents. He emphasized collaboration with other agencies and community engagement as key priorities, aiming to build a safer, more responsive police force that meets the evolving needs of Bengaluru’s citizens.
